twilight cover

Lately in my almost non-existant free time, I've been doing some reading. It helps me to relax my already, overly stressed, and often overactive mind. A friend of mine, who is an avid reader and writer, suggested I read the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer. She asks me if I've read them yet almost every time we chat, which led me to look up the book. The book itself sounds boding and well-written. The author is definitely worth of recognition for her hard work. She's a full-time mother, who somehow found time to write her first 500 or so page book, which has now morphed into a series of four. The face that she found time is incredible in and of itself. Her first book twilight was just released as a movie this past weekend, which leads to the reason I'm writing this post: book covers.

Like every other book that gets made into a movie, people feel they must redo the cover of the written book. Twilight, the first book in the series, is no different, it seems, which is sad because I really like the first and originally awesome cover. Seriously, that cover alone would make me want to buy the book. Seriously people, why spoil a good cover?

I understand the reasoning behind redoing covers to match the movie. I have my foot into the marketing world, I'm not stupid. I know that the more united a look, the more the book and the movie sell. It all comes down to publicity and sales and that's what makes me sad.
